Who We Are

Created in 1999, Tough Enough To Talk About It is a practical workplace mental health program built for real world environments including job sites, shops, offices, farms, and the field. It gives teams the tools to recognize when someone might be experiencing a tough time with their mental health, the confidence to start a supportive conversation, and the ability to take meaningful action.

Designed specifically for industry, trades, energy, transportation, extraction and agriculture, Tough Enough speaks to the realities of long hours, remote work, seasonal pressures, and demanding conditions. Through encouraging open conversations and equipping teams with strategies, Tough Enough reduces stigma, improves safety, and builds a stronger workplace culture.

Trades, Industry, Energy, Transportation, and Agricultural sectors face some of the highest suicide rates in North America. In many of these environments, workplace culture can silence tough conversations. When organizations create space for open dialogue, teams become safer, healthier, and more productive.

PROVEN WORKPLACE IMPACT

As part of the Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention, Tough Enough To Talk About It is recognized as a leader in workplace mental health awareness. Through third party evaluations, outcome reporting, and strong partnerships, the program continues to demonstrate measurable impact.

When employees know what to look for and feel prepared to speak up, real change happens and lives are saved.

WHY WORKPLACE MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS

Workplace mental health is foundational to safety, productivity, and organizational success. Employees spend most of their waking hours at work, and the conditions they face directly impact their wellbeing.

The strongest teams are not the ones that stay silent. They are the ones that look out for each other, pay attention, and build the skills to navigate tough conversations.

When organizations invest in mental health awareness, they reduce risk, strengthen culture, and create environments where people feel supported and connected.
