Raising Awareness of Self Mutilation (1 Day)
Saturday, June 2, 2012
Fee: $125
Workshop Registration Form (pdf)
This workshop will provide a basic introduction to understanding self mutilation, types of self mutilation
and some reasons why people self mutilate. It is meant to raise your awareness about an issue that
affects a large number of people. This complex behaviour can be very difficult for caregivers to
understand, which can in turn cause roadblocks to helping. You will gain an understanding of why
people self mutilate, what the process is that they go through, what their triggers are, and how you
can help someone change this behaviour.
Facilitator: Sandra Guzzwell, RSW, MA, BA, BSW, CGRC, RCS, CAC II
Suicide in Children (Tattered Teddies)
Suicidal behaviour in children 10 years and younger is a subject of growing concern for those who
work with children. Suicidal thoughts and attempts in children have sometimes been overlooked, denied,
or ignored.
This workshop provides information and offeres practical approaches for those working with children
who are 10 or younger and who may be at risk of suicide. Intervention approaches build on the skills
taught in the ASIST as it applies to children.
